Friday Discussion on The Case for the Free Trade

Friday Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of free market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through free market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Hotel Namaskar, Biratnagar on every alternative Friday (twice a month).

The members of the Friday Discussion Group sat down at Hotel Namaskar Bar , on the 21st of October to discuss the article ” The Case for Free Trade’ by Sauvik Chakraverti.

The author claims that, due to restriction on trade for 50 years, until the World Trade Organization (WTO) forced change. Which had lead to the death of Indian industry? Also Opening the Market to Manufacturing Company in under developed part would help them to raise their economic living standard. The discussion started with No country is Self-Sufficient itself in Market. During discussion, some showed their disappointment regarding the Free Trade. Since Free trade had made our living easy in many sense but we should also concerned about what it had taken us from away.  Also arguing from the point of view how India was colonized by East India on the name of Trade. Participant also argued on the quality assurance of the product. Some point that due to the Free Market, we had access to the world product but it is very hard for us to reach our Product to the world Market. Therefore, we should sometime have to be conservative in this situation.

Some members suggested that Specialization and Division of Labor is important Factor in the Market. Market is only the means to be specialized. It would be better for us to find our Specialization in the Product.  It is the policy of the government to have check and balance of the quality of the Product. However, we are the member of ‘WTO ‘we haven’t been able to capitalize our Product to the Global Market.
