Liberty Discussion on Relief or Rethinking
Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of free market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through free market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Graduate Coach Biratnagar on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).
The members of the Liberty Discussion Group sat down at Graduate Coach, on the 26th August 2017 to discuss on the topic “Relief or Rethinking”.
Every year, the rainy season or monsoon season can cause floods but this time the flood hit the Biratnagar area the worst we’ve seen in many years. Governments and local community and youth groups showed up their presence to help those affected people. They are working to bring food, shelter and medical aid to homes of people which have been destroyed. So, this month discussion series “Liberty Discussion” was held on the topic “Relief or Rethinking” on the participants discussed from different perspectives.
It is necessary to give the relief in humanitarian crisis but we should also think beyond it. Charity doesn’t work to solve the problem. The government should work to solve the problem from long- term effects. Some participant argued the government should be conscious to avoid such disaster in coming days. Instead of relief it should now focus on rebuilding and resettle the victim. While adhering to the theme of the paper, the discussion topics pursued a variety of contemporary issues and past examples to both challenge and assert the article. Since, our government has a weak administrative capacity and limited knowledge about efficient management of allocation of resources. So, it is very important to work side by it to solve the problem. The independent group should give suggestion and worked as watch dog to make the authority holder responsible for work. Overall, the discussion from different perspectives helps participant to come in common ground to find solution.
