Liberty Discussion on “Social Welfare: Seen & Unseen”

Liberty Discussion is a program designed to engage and inform the core members on the ideas of market economy and classical liberal ideas. Discussions are made on the contemporary issues (local or national) through open market perspective. Article is selected and shared within the members to prepare oneself for the program. The program is organized at the venue of Bikalpa – an Alternative on every alternative Saturday (twice a month).

On, Saturday, 1st December, 2018, regular participants gathered on the Bikalpa office for the regular formal Liberty Discussion. The discussion was titled in Article “Social Welfare.”

The discussion started with looking into the relationship between Social Security Policy and Economic Feasibility. Some of the participants stated this policy will add a new dimension to labor forces which guarantee security to all. They opined that poverty is the real problem. Therefore, the focus should be on improving the living standard of the people. This policy will help to bridge gap between it and will help the government hold strong over the economy. However, some other participants did not quite agree to this view. They said until the government is not responsible and Accountable towards the citizens then these sorts of policy won’t work.

Likewise, addressing the issues, participants also carried forward that there is seen and unseen part of any policy. These sorts of popular policies won’t work in long term and had to bear consequences. It is necessary for government to create the wealth before re -distributing it.  Individual can solve their problem in better way than intervention of the government. Also, everybody works for their self-interest. This type of scheme only benefits to the small number of people who are nearer to the government. So, instead, government should research and collaborate with various social organization and formulate policies on the basis of the findings. It will help in developing good public policy for the government.
